Dear sister it is
with pleasure that I seat
my self this morning to
drop you a few lins I am
well thogh nearly wore
out of fighting and march
ing. I hope these lins may
find you well. we hav
been a fighting for some
time and do not no yet
when it will be over
for the canon are a roaring
at Dewis bluff at this time
our brig has don some very
hard fighting last week and
our loss was heavy Gen [1]
stuard was wounded on 
tursday last and died on
friday night Gen gordon
was wounded on friday

in his arm and it is
said his arm is broak
there are three of our co
wounded. stiller in the
side. Jno Dry in the thygh
W. L. Barrier in the arm
at the elbow and has in
jured the boan Gen Lee
has been geting the best
of Grant so far Gen Grant
sent a raiding partie from
his army on Richmond
which Gen. stuard persued
and over takened and was
fighting nearly all the
way from spotsylvania C.H.
to Richmond we could not
capture them for there force
was to strong but they did
not get in richmond onley
what we captured Beauregard
is a fighting at dewis bluff

But I do not no how he is a geting a long
