R. L. Calloway (b. ca. 1819) was a Wilkes County and neighbor of the subject of this petition, blacksmith James Calvin Shores, who was serving as a private in Co. B, 1st NC Inf. The handwriting of the letter and Calloway’s signature is the same. Calloway eventually served as a private in the 5th Regiment NC Senior Reserves.
