Sullivans Island S. C. October .. 11th 1864
Dear wife and Children thank God these few lines
leaves me well and hearty and a doing as
well as could be Expected of and I trust
when these few lines Comes to hand they will
reach you all in good health and gitting
along finely Dear wife I Reced your kind
leter yesterday Evening and was glad to hear
that you all at home was well you said that
D. B. was gone to Augusta to git his furlough [1]
Extended write if he does I hope he may you
Said U. X. was home yet tell him not to go [2]
as long as he can help it I was verry glad to
hear that Leroy was well that he[had?] Escaped [3]
unhurt up to the time of his writing last
I am a going to write Leroy a Letter in a day or
So and give him the news you said that
your pea vines got wet I was sorry to hear it
but I hope you have got them hilled in before
now when you pull up your vines in the
lower field git Lizy Mat to pay that days
work she owes you hire Lawrence to work for
you on Sundays get Beavers to let you have
Johny Every chance dont Stand on big prices
to git your crop gethered and pay them off
in tobbacco or Ennything you Can spare
Gether Every thing Clean and Close and
then be Saving with it when it is housed
over

Git Seally Wells to pay you the work she
ows and I think you can git your Crop
Getherd after a while you dont how bad
I want to be there to help you work and
to do my own Buisiness but so it is I
cant do so some days we git a plenty to Eat
other days not quite a nuff But generally Speaking
I have no right to Complain Rite how
your hogs in the pen mends and if you
Git Eny milk for Della and Adda tell
Della that Pa is verry glad she aims to
Bring him some potatoes I am in no hurry
for them [?????] drawed a Coat and
pair of pants I draw a plenty of tobacco
for [the?] [????] for you no I dont use much
pay good [???]tion to pomp and dont let
Suffer for water nor food as you no he is
your all [wr?]ite if the Sows has Eny pigs and
what is the [prospect?] of Eny. Pa was sorry to
hear that Della [???]ped her Sha rite how
the turnips and potatoes turn out I ow lawrence
a half plug of tobacco pay pay him I am about one
hundred yards above Moultrie I haint seen Beavers
man yet it [??] strange sight to see a man
toting a 64 lb Ball for going home write if E. R. R.
has Ever gone yet or no Read this letter to mother tell
U. X and D. B and Beavers to write I am in good
heart you must [??] the same tell Della to Eat all the
Eggs Kiss Della and Adda for Pa . your husband
