[Sullivan's] Island S. C. Satuday moring October 22nd 1864
[?????] few lines leaves me me in the very best of
health and Strength hopeing when these few lines Comes to
and they may find one and all Enjoying that Same
good Blessing Dear Wife I have nothing of importance to
write to you times is very dull here the yankees throus a
few Shot and Shell over here now and then that makes a
very fearful noise but does no harm as yet our fair does
[very?] well. duty is moderate. discipline is ridged. I am as well
Satisfied as a married man and a man can be to love
his family and people if I could be with you all what time
[???] is not on duty and see all my home people then I would
be better contented the best way for a man here is to Content
himself for it is all one price. Huldah I Recd your kind letter of
the 16 of [?????] and was glad to hear that you were all well at
[????????] to hear that Leroy had the dropsy [of?] the heart I hope
he will git better and git a furlough to come home the dropsey is
a hard disease to cure but I hope that god wil spare him [???]
[?] should have bin the Service twelve months ago had it [???]
of bin for him you Said that you and Beavers was agoing to
the factory that D. B. was going too as he had to go to Columbia Eny
how I suppose to the hospital I hope he may git to Stay there a long
time you Said that the old man and U. X. tore down the new
crib and put it up by the maple tree for Barbara a house
that was all right for I no that they dident have time to
hall plank and put up another I am glad that they done it
for I no that they will do the best they can for us all for
I no all of your chances is bad tell U X to Stay at home til
the last day in the Evening I could have stayed at home 3 or 4 weeks
if I had a node what I no now write what you and Beavers

Gathering clean and then be Saveing with it be Sure and pull
up all the peavines I was sorry to hear the Milhouse sow [sluk?] her
pigs I hope the rest will have some pigs them 4 plugs of tobacco
I brought from home has bin stole from me tell Beavers I waunt
him to make me a Box and put hinges and a lock to it
to keep all my little things in a box that wil hold about
2 Bushels and fill it with potatoes and you and Beavers [and?]
Della and Addy fetch it to me I would like you to Come [??]
the first or midle of January. though I will write to you m[???]
about when the time comes closer Be sure and fetch a litle
whiskey as it wil greatly assist us all in the way of [????????]

he could he is a clever fellow and is verry good to me you
Can put your Buisiness in good fix so you can stay a week or 10
days git zilphia to still a busel of corn and bring me some of the whiskey
you wil have to take the house lock to put to the Box nothing safe
here without it is locked up tell the old man I waunt him
to be sure to come with you I will tell you more about it [???]
[ely?] git yourn and Dellas shoose from Hiram Williams and what
Leather is lef and git your other pair half soled write if Enybody
Elce has gone in service since I left write if you carried Della and Addy
to the factory with you or not and all about your trip and if you got Eny yarn
and if Mother has got Eny yarn yet tell Della and Addy to save the taters
and pinders clean and bring Pa some I want to see them mity bad
but I will wait with patience allways read my letters to Eny of the
family tell Addy and Della Pa says god bless them both Kiss his two litle
Sweeties for him do the best you can I will do the same so nothing more at
present but Remain your affectionate Husband til Death
