Mush creek South Carolina
Feb 9th 1862
Dear Brother I seat myself to drop you a
few lines to let you know that we are all well
at the present hoping this may come saft to hand
and find you all well and doing well
It is very cold today the wind blows very hard
it has bin clowdy and raining for over a week until
today William I received a letter from you last monday
A F Pearson brougt hit up that is the last letter
any of us has received from you
there is meeting at Tiger today I wish you was
here to go with us you sed to tell you something
about the girls I will tell you something about
them when I come from meeting thoug it is so
cold I dont expect there will be many people
there I will quit writing till after I come
back from meeting for it is time to fix
to start

I again seat myself to finish this letter I thought
that I would finish it before dark we had
company we all went to meeting today and
Mary Dill and Frances Boswell and Elferd Dill
came home with us and staid till after dinner
and then Mary and myself went up to cousin
Ben Boswells and staid till night I tell
you we had a funny time a coming from tiger
Elferd come with Mary and they started and
got as far as Jack Coughs house and Marys saddle
terned and off she comes and he hope her up
and they started again and got about one
hundred yards [???]nt began to caper around
off she come again and Mary and Elferd changed
horses and they got home about a ½ hour after
we got home. so you see that Mary had
bad luck today they was not very many people
there I saw one boy there but I diden [know?]
who he was so turn over

William your little bird as you call her
want at meeting today nor her cousin neither
that little bird has had a very sore throat
and was afraid to go out today
Nancy Tranel was not there to day she has quit
going to meeting to tiger since you went off
I havent seen her but one time since you
went off the first time aunt Polly Ann
unkle John Stroud is here to night
aunt Polly ann sends her love to you
William come home when Fullers Company
comes home if you dont before but I want
you to come before if you can
Miss Goodletts schol begins tomorrow I think
she will have abad time as it is very cold
and cloudy now William you must look
over my bad writeing as I havent my
spectakles and cant see the ruling

William I am verry sorrow that you cant
find no girls to write to and haft to write
to a married woman up above here
William for my sake never write another line
to her for I tell you she wont do
William Dr Miles ses to tell you that he
hasent bin a courtin in chinkypin but
one time this winter as the weather
is so bad aunt Caroline send best
respects to you ann ses to tell you
howdy for her I must quit writing
for our light is about to give out
write as soon as this comes to hand and
write all the news nomore but
remains yours as ever write soon
