David H. Mitchell (b. in Georgia ca. 1835) was a farmer residing in Talladega County, Alabama. At time of the Federal Census of 1860, Mitchell and his wife, Rebecca Jane (b. Georgia ca. 1839) were living on their farm with their two children, Nancy (b. ca. 1856) and George (ca. 1858-1925). Mitchell served as a private in Co. A, 12th Alabama Infantry. They had two more daughters during the Civil War: Lucretia Jane (ca. 1861-1936) and Mary Frances (ca. 1861-1944). He was prisoner at Elmira prison camp in September 1864 and died in August 1865. Rebecca survived the war with their children.
