Richmond Virginia      Aug 18
Dear Father
As Mr Brandon is
now going to bee off for Dekalb in
a few minites I seze this time to write
you a few lines to let you know I
got your letter and was glad to heare
from you all I have no news to
write to yow more than what John has
don wrote to william tharefore I deme
it unnecessary to state the same to you
you stated you was looking for me to
come home the prosspect for that is
very Dim now we have to go out on
the muster role that Capt Higgins mad
out when we was musted in to service
and he was afraid we would not be
received and put down our ages all
older than we was and on that accout we
have to stay without you sende me an
affidavits of my age and then it is dout-
ful to me geting out but can go before
the Provote Juge and sware to my age and
send it to me I will try any way

you can have my horse cut if
you wante him cut any time we
now have orders to cook up our
Rashens and bee readey to march
I guess we will go to General Jackson
up about Gordingsville va I must come
to a close I would like to see you
all very well but no chance at
this time tell syrenia I will write
to here befor long I sende her several
yankee triks so no more at
presente only I remain your true
son untill Death so good Evining
