May 22 1863 Dear wife I take
the pleasure of wrighting you a few
loines in ancer to yours Cind letter
that come to hand on the 19 that
was dated one April the 30 and one [2]
may the 10 one had a lett[er] in hit from Lewis
and one had one in hit from hosea I
was truly Glad to hear from yew
all Dear wife this leaves me not
well bwt so I can be up I have ben
sick with the bowel complaint bwt
I have kept up all of the time bwt
I am mending I truly hope those few
loines may safely and soon reach and
find yow all well and doing well receiving
every blessing of god Dear wife we have
moved to hameltons Crosin bwt we shant
stay hear long some say we are going to
drwes bluff but I doant no wher we
are going the reason I hant wrote tel now
we marched all night and one day and

and to day we hav stoped to rest and
I am wrighting now Dear wife I was sorow
to hear that you had such bad luck with
to loose your cow I had drother hirn yow
had lost fifty dollars but yow must do
the best yow can for I cant do nothing for
yow nor my little children I was Glad to
hear you had a swarm of beas but I
was Glader to hair yow had planted your
corn and potatoes I want to know how
your corn is holding owt and meant I want
yow to take cear of youre corn and meat
I doant mean for yow to starve yowre
Self nor my little children Dear I was
Glad to yew sent that envelop
and postage stamp to me for I did not
have nery envelop nor stamp nor no
money Edward [3] said tell pappy he and
buddy fed the hogs yow be smart my
little boyes tell your pap Goes back home
I remaine as ever yowre tender husban
