Barrancas, Fa Jan 14th /65,

Dear Father
it is with pleasure I seat
myself to pen you a few
lines to let you know that
I am well & hope these few
lines will find you the same
our long expected Mail
got here yesterday I got
five letters, two from you,
I was glad to hear from home
I tell you, I had one from
Otis he was well,
we had a General inspection
yesterday, I was on guard
so I got clear of it.

Albert Ferrin was here to see
Frank day before yesterday
I was glad to see him.
I got that box one weak
ago last wednsday every
thing was in good shape,
the health of the Regt is verry
good as a general thing
we have some pretty cold wether
out here now but not so
cold as it is down there I
dont suppose,
we have some axidents happen
here yet Ezra Winslow
was cleaning his revolver when
it was discharged put the
ball in his arm it lodged
in his elbow it kept growing
worse till the mortifycation
set in & then they took his
arm off above the elbow, it was
his left arm, it is doing well now

you wanted to know why
I did not git a furlow
I do not think it would
pay, a furlow would not
amount to but little &
I can git along with out it
verry well now
I do not think of enny
thing more to write so I
will close write soon as you
git this with out fail
