Biography:
Joel Getchell (b. ca. 1810) was farmer residing in New Portland, Somerset County, Maine. Two sons of Joel and his wife, Eleanor, served in the Union Army. Otis Getchell (b. ca. 1841) served as a private in Co. G, 17th Maine Infantry, and Ezra Getchell (b. ca. 1844) served as a private in Co. K, 2nd Maine Cavalry. Both brothers survived the war.
