Well Father
after so long a
time I seat myself to answer
your letter which I recd a
long time ago but have
neglected answering it until
now I am not very well
this morning I have got a
very bad cold I have just
come up from Bristol this
morning there is about 1
Inch of Snow on the ground
& that came last night I
am afraid I am agoing
to have the Small Pox
was exposed to it one week
ago I went onto see a Lady
friend of mine down to
Bristol that was sick t he
Doctor said she had the

Typhus Fever but she broke
out with the small pox the
very next morning & I stood
right side of her bed Talking
with her the Doctor of Bristel
sent word to me to be
Vaccinated right away & I
have he says I may have
it and may not I hope
not I have been examined
for the [Front?] & was pronounced
Unfit for Duty I shall probably
stay here a while longer
we have not been paid yet
they say they have got to
make a new demand for
money I want you to send
me a pair of good
Boots as soon as you can
I shall need them bad by
the time you can get them
here I will write Byron &
see if he has got any mony

to spare if has have
him send it to you
I want No 8 if you cant
get them made right away
get as good a pair as
you can at the store

write as soon as you get this
& let me know when
to look for them
