Biography: 

Stephen Johnston was from Franklin, Mercer County, Ohio. He was the son of Mary and Christopher Johnston. Along with his brother, Henry P. Johnston (b. ca. 1840), Stephen Johnston mustered into the Co. C, 118th Ohio Infantry as a private on August 20, 1862. Stephen was wounded twice: at Resaca, Georgia on May 14, 1864 and at the Battle of Nashville on December 15, 1864. He mustered out on June 6, 1865.
