Weldon Railroad Sept 29 1864
Dear mother & sister
I take my pen in hand to address
a fiew lines to you but I havent
time to write much we ar on pick
it and under Marching orders last
nite there was sharp firing Nere
petersburg this morning a big lot
of our Cavalry went out I think
we ar on the eve of a big time I
hope we will bee Victorious
But I have good news for
you this time I have hurd
from James he is yet a live
and a nurse in an hospital
in Gorgia one of the 4th
Pa Cah Cavalry told me yester
day that one of them got a
leter from one that was taken
when James was and he wrote
that James [1] was well and a
nurse in the hospital I think
it is true now I [woushed?]

I think you will be glad to
here from him yes I know you
will I do think the Allmity
has been very kind to us we
have all grait Reason to thank
him and Prais him for his
mirsies endureth for ever
now I must soon go on post
I am on Pickit I stand on

leter & dont furget us all in
your Prairs may God Bless
