Biography: 

John W. Clark was the son of Silas H. Clark’s brother Robert L. Clark, also a wealthy businessman and plantation owner. At the time of the 1860 Census, John W. Clark’s age was listed as 18 and his occupation as “pupil.” He was probably a student at LaGrange College (founded 1830) in Florence, Alabama. His service records indicate that John W. Clark enlisted as a private in Co. A, 15th Mississippi Infantry on May 21, 1861 and died on November 19, 1861 (place and cause of death not recorded).
