Biography: 

Marcus S. Hunter (b. GA ca. 1828) served as a lieutenant (later 1st sergeant) in Co. G, 17th Louisiana Infantry. He was wounded at Shiloh in April 1862 and taken prisoner and paroled at Vicksburg on July 4, 1863. He was exchanged in December 1863, but there are no further records of his service. In 1860 he was living in Jackson Parish, Louisiana, where he was employed as an overseer or manager on a plantation owned by a wealthy widow, Ann McLeod (b. NC ca. 1812). In 1870, M. S. Hunter was living in Morehouse Parish, Louisiana
