Biography: 

The Overcash Family was from Rowan County, North Carolina.  Two sons of Joseph and Barbara Overcash, James W. (b. ca. 1837), and John S. (b. ca. 1841), served in Co. G. 6th North Carolina Infantry.  James enlisted in May 1861 and John in March 1862.  The two brothqers were both captured on November 7, 1863 and paroled in May 1865.   Another son, Reuben Alexander Overcash (b. ca. 1842), served in Co. D, 34th North Carolina Infantry, and the youngest son, George Franklin Overcash (b. ca. 1846), served in Co. G, 42nd North Carolina Infantry.
