James A. Patton letters, 1862-1864
James A Patton (b. ca. 1837) was a Granville County, North Carolina farmer. At the time of the Federal Census of 1860, Patton and his wife Isabella (Belle) Patton were living in the household of Patton’s father, James Patton (b. in Scotland ca. 1798). James A. Patton enlisted in Co. G, 47th North Carolina Infantry on February 22, 1862. His military records indicate that he was court-martialed on November 4, 1863. James A. Patton died of dysentery in Gordonsville, Virginia on March 3, 1864.
