Camp near Tupelo Miss July the 3 1862
Dear Brother an Sister i take theis oportunity
of writeing you a few lines to let you know
that i am well at present hopeing they may
find you all well i received your letter that
was dated June the 3rd i was glad to hear from
you and that you was all well i have no news
to write to day i have heard that there are
orders for us to march before long and go ten
miles a day and carry our guns and knapsacks
but words not no where we will go some say
to Chattanonga Tennessee we have a great deal
of sickness here Abe Mcmalen is dead he died the
25th of June it looks like they will soon all
dye if they have to stay here, the weather
is very hot and dry in some places the corn
is so burned up that it will not make
seed wheat was sory it was killed with the
rust i got a letter from William he was
well he said that he was tired of the war
and would likto be at home ther are two of
in the saim notion but we have it to take
and it is the best way to take it easy we
have about 125 men able for duty in the Regt
i think we will son have no regiment at all
i heard that they have sent back to South
Carolina for men to fill it out you said
that you wanted no to send you

a pasport but our captain is not here
and i cant git one but Lt Mullikin
Said that if you would make aplication
to the Colonel of your Regment you can
git transportd hom Calumbia S C from
the Transportation Quarter Master therein
would like to see you and all the rest of you
if i could i will have to close for the want
of Something to write write to me every chance
you have So nothing more at present
but remain your Brother till Death

i drop you a few lines to let you no
that i am well hopeing they may find

but i dont no where to i think we will

go east i dont care if we do if their will
take us far enough you wanted to no
who i had in my mess they will be Mc
an W Arnold J C Alewine and my Self.
Alewine is at the hospital i have not heard
from him lately i did not git the Socks
you sent me but i bought a pair today
i dont ned no other clothing write to me as soon
as you git this So nothing more at present JT Boyd
