Dear Father and Mother Brothers
Sisters Connection & Friends.
Ir is with no small degree if pleasue
that I avail myself of the presant oppor
tunity of writing you a short letter which
will inform you that we are all well
except Pearson he has the mumps. I hope
these lines may come safe to hand and
find you all well
I dont know that I can write aney
thing that wood interrest yow
but as to day is Christmass and I have
nothing to do I thought I wood spend
the day in writeing I drew my rations
for to day last monday to keep from having
aney thing to do to day. we will have no driling
to day

we will have an Election to day
in our companey for forth Lieut
Dr Bowden will be elected as he has
no opponent There is five Sergents
and severl Corprels to appoint I dont
know who thay will be yet
John Neves & James Nicoll is on
Guard to day you ought to of seen us
cleaning a large Shanghigh chicking
and Stewing her with Dumplings this
morning. you may want to know
what She cost but I cant tell you
for the first I saw of her she was
lying at out tent with her neck broke
The Greenvill Regement is still [1]
at the rose path I sopose thay have orders
to move down towards Beaufort I dont
know when thay will go. I have no
idea but what the Greenville Reg will
ne in a fight before we will for thay
are onely fore the State Service and
onely for twelve months while we are
for the war and for the Service of the Confederate
service

Our Battalion is not ready for a fight
yet nor I cant tell when we will be
for it seams like it takes our officers
the longest time to do any thing that ever I saw
Thay have just now countermanded the
election for forth Lieut that was comeing
on to day I dont know when it will come
on now (Later)
Our election is still comeing on to day
I have just voted no person is runing
against Bowden. Campbell is gone
up home he will be back in a few
days then the other officers will be
apointed, we have got the nues down
hear that the Regement is called together
at Bruden old field to day for the
purpos of drafting but I know it
is not the case
Pa I sent you some paper by Wilse the
other day and I had some letters wrote
to send but he went off and forgot
them but I started them by mail the next
day. John sent some paper and envelops also
I sent 5 quires

Frances I wood like to be up in Greenville
to spend Christmass and have Some fun
but I am not thare so you must fly round
and have some fun for me. I think I will
have some fun when I come up home but I
dont know when that will be I think I will
get off on furlow this winter some time.
I received a letter from cousin Polly Cox the
other day. tell Martha Bailey & Frances Boswell
I will not write aney more at presant
but I will finish this letter and mail it
to morrow so no more till then,
(after diner) Frances you to of seen me making
up wheat dough I cut my finger at it and
had to finish with one hand. J.H. Mcmillion has
to make it up to night
Dec 26th all is well this morning. we will
have Some more Changhigh and dumplings
for diner to day I hear nothing Strange
this morning
Frances this is a vary dull christmass
down hear So far. the companey is gone
out to drill and the mail will Soon be
hear So I will have to Stop writing for
the presant So no more at this time but
remains yours as ever. write to me
as soon as this comes to hand
