Richmond Va. March 5th 1862
Dear Mother
I seat myself
to inform you that I am
well at the present time
and as ugly as ever
Ma I would like to see
you all very well but as
I cannot I want you all
to rite to me as often as
you can for I like to hear
from you All the best in
the world tell sis that
she Could rite to me
A heep oftener than she
does I expect that we
will stay here all of the
winter to guard the city
of Richmond for it was
[page 2]
fired three times on the third
of march and it kept
three of our Companies in
our Regt up all night
for police guards for the city
our president Jefferson Davis
has passed A law that no
whiskey should be sold
in ten miles of richmond
I think it A very good
thing that he has stop
the sale of liquor in
this city for it will
save A heep of the soldiers
money and put A heep of
of these little duch to
work for every house is a
liquor grocery Ma I must
Close give my best love to All
of the family rite often
