Biography:
Starling J. (b. ca. 1835), Stephen S. (b. ca. 1838), and George W. (b. ca. 1845) all enlisted in Co. A, 4th Battalion (Artillery) of Hilliard’s Legion in April 1862. In November of 1863, the three brothers’ company became Co. I, 59th Alabama Infantry. Starling and Stephen served as sergeants, George as a private. Starling and George were captured at Hatcher’s Run, Virginia on March 29, 1865; Stephen was captured at Amelia Court House on April 3, 1865. All three brothers were confined at Point Lookout before being released in June 1865.
