Biography: 

W. Champion Athey (b. ca. 1845) was the son of William Athey and brother of George and Emily Athey, all of whom lived in Ramah, Montgomery County, Albama. "Champion," as he was known, served in Co. C, 3rd Battalion, Hillard’s Legion (which later became part of the 60th Alabama Infantry) and was wounded and taken prisoner at Drewry’s Bluff, Virginia on April 6, 1865 and paroled on July 1.
