Biography: 

William Jonathan Boyer was from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and served in Co. I, 173rd PA Infantry (drafted militia). He died in a Virginia convalescent camp on July 27, 1863. His brothers also served in the Union Army: Peter Boyer, Jr. served as a private in Co. C, 17th PA Cavalry (162nd PA Vo.); Daniel Boyer served as a private in Co. I, 122nd PA Infantry (a nine-month regiment); John Boyer served in Co. B, 190th PA Infantry.
