Biography: 

James S. Miller (b. ca. 1839) was from Lawrence County, Pennsylvania. At the time of the 1860 Census, Miller was living on the family farm owned by his parents, James Miller Sr. (b. ca. 1800) and Mary Miller (b. ca. 1808) and his five siblings. James S. Miller served as a sergeant in Battery B, 1st Pennsylvania Light Artillery and was killed at the Battle of Glendale, Virginia on June 30, 1862 (part of the Seven Days Battles around Richmond).
