Alfred W. Sandlin
Alfred W. Sandlin (b. SC ca. 1832) was a farmer from Itawamba County, Mississippi. He enlisted as a private (later promoted to sergeant) in Co H, 43rd Mississippi Infantry on May 10, 1862 and transferred to Co. B, 1st Mississippi Infantry (Johnstons) as a lieutenant in January 1863. Sandlin was captured at Port Hudson, Louisiana on July 8, 1863 and spent the remainder of the war in prison camps at Johnson’s Island, Point Lookout, and Fort Delaware before being released on June 12, 1865 after taking the oath of allegiance. He and his wife, Lucinda (b. ca. 1834) were parents of three children, Mary, Minirva, and Rufus.
