Biography: 

John N. Snider (b. ca. 1835) was the eldest son of Elizabeth (b. ca. 1799) and Daniel Snider (b. ca. 1798), a farmer from near Lexington in Rockbridge County, Virginia. He enlisted as a private in the Rockbridge 2nd Dragoons (Co. H, 14th Virginia Cavalry) on May 14, 1861. John Snider was eventually promoted to corporal and was wounded at Smithville, Virginia on August 23, 1864.
