Emoline (b. ca. 1829) lived with her husband Jesse on their small farm in FOsyth County, North Carolina. Census records indicate that she could not read or write. The Hills had family connections in neighboring Davidson County, which is where Emoline was living when her husband wrote to her during the war and where the family was living at the time of the Census of 1870.
