Biography: 

John C. Hartsel (b. ca. 1828) was a farmer from Franklin County, Virginia who appears to have served with John Jimison (b. ca. 1824) in the 110th Regiment, Virginia Militia, and who was either a relative or neighbor John Jimison. At the time of the 1860 Census, Hartsel (also spelled Hartsell) and his wife, Lavina, were listed in the household of Hartsel’s widowed mother, Hannah Hartsel (b. ca. 1788), and his two adult sisters.
