James and F. M. Bradley Letters

James M. Bradley and Francis M. Bradley were from Jackson County Georgia and served in Co. B, 16th Georgia Infantry. Of the two, only Francis can be located in the 1860 Census where he is listed as a farmer, 32 years old, married with two children. He enlisted as a private on August 13, 1861 and was elected 2nd lieutenant on December 7, 1862. Francis M. Bradley died of fever in camp near Fredericksburg on January 19, 1863. James M. Bradley enlisted on July 19, 1861, originally serving in Co. F before transferring to Co. B. He was wounded at the Battle of Malvern Hill on July 1, 1862, was wounded and captured at Crampton's Gap, Maryland on September 14, 1862, exchanged on November 10, 1862, and then disappears from records. The collection includes one letter written by Francis M. Bradley and two by James M. Bradley. There is also a letter written by William J. Hale, who served as a corporal in Co. F, 16th Georgia Infantry, and two letters by John and Susan Robertson, who left Georgia in the early 1850s and settled in Texas. All the letters were written to J. J. N. Kenny and Eliza Bradley Kenny, relatives of the letter writers.
