Biography: 

Rebecca Emma Fielding (b. ca. 1837) was married to William A. Martin (b. ca. 1837), a farmer from Anderson District, South Carolina. The couple had one child, Henry ( b. ca. 1862). William served as a sergeant in Co. G, 22nd South Carolina Infantry. William's service records indicate that he became a “casualty of war” near Petersburg, Virginia on July 30, 1864 in the Battle of the Crater, which killed or wounded 216 members of his regiment. Rebecca and her son lived with her widowed mother in subsequent years after the war.
