Biography: 

David J. Orne (b. Vermont ca. 1838) was a farm laborer from Clinton, Worcester County, Massachusetts. At the time of the 1860 Census, he was living in the household of his sister and brother-in-law, Hannah and Alonzo B. Howland. Orne mustered into service as a private in Co. D, 2nd Massachusetts Infantry on May 25, 1861. He was taken prisoner near Winchester, Virginia on May 24 or 25, 1862, later exchanged, and mustered out on May 24, 1864.
