Biography: 

William T. Martin (b. ca. 1842) was from a farm family in Pickens District, South Carolina. He lived with his father Oliver Martin (b. ca. 1817) and four siblings. He joined Co. F, 1st Regiment, Orr's Rifles, South Carolina Volunteers in the Civil War. His unit was in the Charleston area from the fall of 1861 to May 1862, when it was transferred to Richmond, Virginia. On August 5, 1862, William died of "camp fever" or typhoid fever in a Richmond hospital.
