Biography:
Eleanor Getchell was the wife of farmer Joel Getchell (b. ca. 1810) residing in New Portland, Somerset County, Maine. Their two sons served in the Union Army. Otis Getchell (b. ca. 1841) served as a private in Co. G, 17th Maine Infantry, and Ezra Getchell (b. ca. 1844) served as a private in Co. K, 2nd Maine Cavalry. Both brothers survived the war.
