Ephraim Hampton (born ca. 1835) was a Grayson County, Virginia farm laborer. At the time of the Federal Census of 1860, Hampton and his wife, Sarah (b. ca. 1835) had three young sons, John, William, and Isom. Along with his brother Isom (b. ca. 1842), Ephraim Hampton enlisted in Co. C, 45th Virginia Infantry on May 29, 1861 and was discharged on October 1, 1862. He joined Co. G, 63rd Virginia Infantry (McMahon’s) as a sergeant in July 1863 and was elected 2nd lieutenant on May 31, 1864. He was killed in action at the Battle of Jonesboro, Georgia (August 31 – September 1, 1864). Ephraim Hampton was the son of Grayson County farmer Andrew Hampton and Mary (Polly) Hampton.
