John James Jefcoat
John James Jefcoat (1832-1907) was farmer from Orangeburg District, South Carolina. He was married to Rachel (1840-1917). He enlisted as a musician in Co. D, 20th South Carolina Infantry on April 10, 1862. He later served as a private and was eventually promoted to sergeant. His four brothers also served in the Confederacy: Henry Wiley and J. J. A. (Joel) served with him in Co. D, 20th South Carolina Infantry, while Benjamin J. P. and Samuel W. served in Co. D, 7th South Carolina Cavalry. During the war, John and Rachel had two daughters Marcilla (b. 1860) and Rosa (b. 1864).
