Andrew J. White Papers
Andrew J. White (b. ca. 1836) was from Campbell County, Georgia and served as a private in the “Campbell Sharpshooters,” Co. C, 30th Georgia Infantry. At the time of the Federal Census of 1860, White and his wife, Margaret (b. ca. 1840), resided on their Campbell County farm with their two small children, Zeppora (b. ca. 1856) and Lucius (b. ca. 1857). His military records indicate White became a prisoner of war during the Vicksburg campaign and was paroled on July 13, 1863. White deserted sometime before early September 1864 and took the oath of loyalty at Lousiville on September 28, 1864, with the condition that he stay north of the Ohio River for the duration of the war. Campbell County ceased to exist in 1931 when it became part of Fulton County.
